The Climb To The Top

Many of us know her from the Olympics. Simone Biles has made a statement to the world time and time again as a young superstar. She was born in Ohio in 1997 and adopted at a young age by her grandparents and grew up in north Houston, TX. She decided to first try gymnastics at 6 years old as part of a day-care field trip. At 8 years old, she began training with coach Aimee Boorman.

Simone began her elite career at age 14 when she entered the 2011 American Classic in Houston. From then on, she came to set many records and receive many awards. In her 2016 Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro, she became a gold medalist in vault, floor, Individual and Team all-around. As well as this, she was a bronze medalist on the beam.

A record breaker AND a trend-setter, Simone is is also famous for her complex flip-move that has been named “The Biles.” Since 2015, she has been sponsored by Nike, and has made deals with GK Elite Sportswear, Core Power, Proctor & Gamble, Hershey, United Airlines, Mattress Firm, Beats By Dr. Dre, and Caboodles. This year, she announced she would be leaving her sponsorship with Nike and now entering a sponsorship with Athleta.

During her career, she has had to face multiple obstacles dealing with abuse and her ADHD. She had opened up about her case against her former USA Coach and abuser, which was a difficult situation for her. She also had previously opened up about her struggles with ADHD and how people questioned her medical records.

Many athletes face obstacles and choose to let that bring them down. Not in this case. Simone Biles is a prime example of humility and how athletes can excel and succeed even when things are trying to bring them down.

She has been dubbed “the most talented gymnast of all-time.” She is well on her way to becoming one of the best gymnasts in the history of the sport.
