Seton Hall Opens as a Catholic college
Since its founding in 1856 as Seton Hall College, the university has remained dedicated to the vision of its founder, Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley, for a place that nurtures the mind, the heart, and the spirit.
1937
Seton Hall established a University College

Despite setbacks, lean times, and the Civil War, Seton Hall College continued to grow throughout the 19th century.
1968
Co-Education
This marked the first matriculation of women at Seton Hall. Seton Hall’s South Orange campus became coeducational in 1968.
1951
The School of Law
opened with Miriam Rooney as the first woman dean of law in the United States.
1986
Medical Education

In 1986, representatives from 13 New Jersey Catholic hospitals and medical centers gathered at Seton Hall to discuss medical education in the state.
1987
Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center
The Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center was commemorated.
1987
School of Graduate Medical Education
In April 1987, Seton Hall’s Board of Trustees approved the formation of the School of Graduate Medical Education.
1994
Walsh Library

In 1994, Seton Hall opened the $20 million Walsh Library, a state-of-the-art facility offering top-notch study and research resources. This marked the beginning of the university’s technological transformation.

School of Diplomacy and International Relations

In 1997, Seton Hall University established the School of Diplomacy and International Relations in partnership with the United Nations Association of the United States of America.

Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine

In 2018, Seton Hall University launched the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, one of six Catholic medical schools in the United States.
