Karl-Anthony Towns Jr. (born November 15, 1995), sometimes known as KAT, is a Dominican-American professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. Towns was named to the Dominican Republic national team as a 16-year-old.

Karl-Anthony Towns Jr. attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey. He was a consensus five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall player in the 2015 class. He committed to play college basketball at the University of Kentucky.

Towns played one season of college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. He averaged 16.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. He was named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Year and was a consensus first-team All-American.

Towns was selected with the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has been a starter for the Timberwolves ever since. In his rookie season, he averaged 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Karl-Anthony Towns Jr.  has been a consistent scorer throughout his career. He has averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his seven NBA seasons. He has also been a two-time NBA All-Star. In 2020-21, he led the NBA in rebounds per game with 10.9.

Karl-Anthony Towns Jr.  is currently in his eighth NBA season. He is still under contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the next four seasons. He is one of the best players in the NBA and is a key part of the Timberwolves’ future.

Dominican National Team

Karl-Anthony Towns has only played in one game with the Dominican Republic national team so far, a 94-88 win over Canada on August 18, 2023. He had 20 points and 6 rebounds in that game.

Towns has been out since late November 2022 with a Grade 3 calf strain. He is expected to make his NBA debut for the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, August 24, 2023.

It is unclear how much playing time Towns will get with the Dominican Republic national team. He is still recovering from his injury and the team has a number of other talented players, such as Al Horford and Chris Duarte.

However, Towns’ presence on the team is a major boost. He is one of the best players in the world and his experience and leadership will be valuable to the Dominican Republic.
