Malone averaged 17.2 points and 12.9 rebounds over two seasons with Utah. He was named ABA Rookie of the Year and All-ABA in 1975 before the league folded.
Transition to the NBA
When the ABA ended, Malone joined the NBA’s Buffalo Braves. After one season, he was traded to the Houston Rockets where he elevated to superstardom.
Teaming up with guards Calvin Murphy and Rudy Tomjanovich, Malone put up 13 straight seasons averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. He won back-to-back MVP awards in 1979 and 1982.
In 1983, Malone joined the Philadelphia 76ers and finally captured his elusive championship, winning 1983 Finals MVP. He led the “Fo, Fo, Fo” Sixers to a dominant playoff run.
