Swin Cash: A Basketball Legend
Swin Cash is a retired professional basketball player who played in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) for 15 seasons. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, three-time WNBA champion, and four-time WNBA All-Star. Cash is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
High School
Cash was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and attended McKeesport Area High School. She was a two-time All-American and led her team to the state championship in 1997. Cash was also a star track athlete, winning the state championship in the 100-meter dash.
College
Cash attended the University of Connecticut, where she played for the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. She was a three-year starter and helped the Huskies win two national championships in 2000 and 2002. Cash was also named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player in 2002.
Professional
Cash was drafted by the Detroit Shock with the second overall pick in the 2002 WNBA draft. She quickly became one of the league’s best players, helping the Shock win their first WNBA championship in 2003. Cash won two more WNBA championships with the Shock in 2006 and 2010.
In 2010, Cash was traded to the Seattle Storm. She won her third WNBA championship with the Storm in 2010. Cash also played for the New York Liberty and the Chicago Sky during her WNBA career.
Current Status
Cash retired from professional basketball in 2016. She is currently the vice president of basketball operations and team development for the New Orleans Pelicans. Cash is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
