Chelsea Gray was born on October 8, 1992 in Hayward, California. Ms. Gray is an American professional basketball player for the Las Vegas Aces of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was drafted by the Connecticut Sun with the 11th overall pick in the 2014 WNBA draft.

High School

Gray attended St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, California.  She was a four-year letter winner in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. Chelsea also was named the Gatorade California Player of the Year in 2011 and was a McDonald’s All-American.  Chelsea Gray was a highly decorated high school basketball player. She was named California Miss Basketball and a Gatorade Player of the Year selection in 2010. Chelsea also won state championships with St. Mary’s High School in Stockton. In addition to her athletic achievements, Gray was also a strong student with a 3.7 grade-point average. She earned an athletic scholarship to Duke University.

College

Gray played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils from 2011 to 2014. She was a two-time All-ACC selection and was named to the All-ACC Tournament team in 2014. Chelsea helped the Blue Devils to a 120-19 record. Gray’s college accomplishments include:

  • NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team (2012)
  • ACC Co-Player of the Year (2013)
  • All-ACC first team (2013, 2012) and honorable mention (2011)
  • ACC All-Tournament second team (2012, 2011)
  • Led Duke to a 30-3 record in 2013
  • Finished her career at Duke as the school’s all-time leader in assist-to-turnover ratio

Chelsea was drafted by the Connecticut Sun with the 11th overall pick in the 2014 WNBA draft. She missed her rookie season due to injury, but made her WNBA debut in 2015. Gray was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016 and won a WNBA championship with the team in 2016. Chelsea was traded to the Las Vegas Aces in 2021 and won a WNBA championship with the team in 2022.

Gray is currently in her ninth WNBA season. She is a two-time WNBA champion and has been named to the WNBA All-Star team three times. Ms. Gray is a two-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection.  Chelsea Gray is a versatile player who can play both guard positions. She is a good scorer, passer, and rebounder. She is also a good defender making her a valuable asset to any team. Gray is currently averaging 15.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 7.3 apg, and 1.4 spg.

Gray was also ranked third in the league for assists per game, fourth for 3-point shooting percentage, and first for foul shooting. If she can maintain her percentages for the full season, she could qualify for the “50-40-90 club”. This club is made up of 10 WNBA and NBA players.
