Shedeur Sanders is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. He followed in his father’s footsteps and played quarterback at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas. As a senior, Sanders led his team to a 14-0 record and the Division II state championship. He was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas and was ranked as the top dual-threat quarterback in the country by 247Sports.

College

Sanders committed to play college football at Jackson State University, where his father was the head coach. He redshirted his freshman year in 2020. In 2021, he started all 12 games and led the Tigers to a 10-2 record and a berth in the Celebration Bowl. He was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the best offensive player in FCS football.  In 2023, Sanders transferred to the University of Colorado Boulder. He is expected to be the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes in their upcoming season.

Opening Game

Shedeur Sanders had a record-breaking performance in his debut for the Colorado Buffaloes against the TCU Horned Frogs on September 2, 2023. He completed 38 of 47 passes for 510 yards and four touchdowns, breaking the school’s single-game passing record. He also rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Sanders’ performance was especially impressive considering that he was facing a TCU defense that was ranked 12th in the country in terms of passing yards allowed per game. He was able to find open receivers all over the field, and he made several big plays, including a 46-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Edwards in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory for the Buffaloes.

Sanders’ performance was a major reason why the Buffaloes were able to pull off the upset victory over the Horned Frogs. He showed that he is a talented quarterback who has the potential to be a star in the Pac-12 Conference.
