Who Is Cappy Pondexter?

Cappie Pondexter: College

After high school, she attended Rutgers University, where she continued to excel on the basketball court. Cappie Pondexter was a standout basketball player at Rutgers University, where she played for four seasons from 2003 to 2007.  At Rutgers, Pondexter was named to the All-Big East First Team and helped lead the team to the NCAA Championship in 2007.

During her time at Rutgers, Pondexter was named to the All-Big East First Team twice and was also named to the All-Big East Second Team once. She was also named an Associated Press All-American twice and was named the Big East Player of the Year in 2007.

In addition to her individual accolades, Pondexter helped lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to the NCAA Championship in 2007. She was the team’s leading scorer and played a key role in their success. Pondexter finished her college career as Rutgers’ all-time leading scorer with 2,539 points, and she was also the school’s all-time leader in steals and free throws made.

Cappie Pondexter: Professional

Cappie Pondexter had a successful career in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association). She was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2006 WNBA Draft and played for the team for several seasons. During her time with the Mercury, Pondexter was named an All-Star multiple times and helped lead the team to the WNBA Championship in 2007 and 2009. In addition to her scoring ability and strong leadership on the court, Pondexter was known for her clutch performance in big games.

In 2010, Pondexter was traded to the New York Liberty, where she played for several seasons. She continued to be a key player for the Liberty and was named an All-Star in 2011 and 2012. Pondexter also played for the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever before retiring from the WNBA in 2017. Over the course of her career, Pondexter scored over 5,000 points and was one of the top players in the league.
