Maya Moore

High School

Maya Moore was born on June 11, 1989 in Jefferson City, Missouri. She played high school basketball at Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia. Moore started all four years on varsity and led her team to the state championship in 2007. She earned the Gatorade National Player of the Year and Naismith High School Player of the Year honors. Moore also made McDonald’s All-American and Parade All-American.

College

Moore attended the University of Connecticut, where she played college basketball for the UConn Huskies. She started all four years and led the Huskies to four consecutive national championships (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012). Moore won the Final Four Most Outstanding Player awards in 2010 and 2011. She also achieved three-time All-American status and two-time Big East Player of the Year honors.

Professional

The Minnesota Lynx drafted Moore with the first overall pick in the 2011 WNBA draft. She has played for the Lynx her entire professional career, winning four WNBA championships (2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017). Moore earned the WNBA Finals MVP award in 2013. She has also made six WNBA All-Star teams and won the WNBA Most Valuable Player award in 2014.

Current Status

In 2019, Moore retired from professional basketball to concentrate on activism. She actively advocates for criminal justice reform and raises awareness of mass incarceration. Moore also works to promote education and empowerment for girls and young women.
