St Rose vs. St. Benedicts | 1-6-24

High School Boys Varsity | 52-48

The Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase is an annual event at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey. The 2024 showcase will take place on Saturday, January 6th at Collins Arena, located at 765 Newman Springs Rd. The showcase will feature four games, including two rivalry games between Shore Conference teams.

ST. ROSE, TAKES ON ST. BENEDICTS OF NEWARK Double OT 52-48

Matthew Hodge, a Villanova commit, scored 27 points, 8 rebs, and 4 assists to lead St. Rose. while Jayden Hodge added 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. Gio Panzini chipped in 3 points and seven rebounds for St. Rose. Bryan Ebeling also contributed 9 points, and 2 assists.

The game was close throughout, and both teams were battling offensively to score. The game went into double OT. With the more disciplined team as the victor. St Benedicts and their lightning quick guards penetrated the defense attacking the rim but couldnt get the bucket to fall. St. Rose secured the possession and Matthew Hodge going 10-10 from the free throw line sealed the game win along with a timely basket from Bryan Ebeling while running their offense in the final seconds.

St Benedicts battled hard, with #24 Chidi Nwigwe 6’6” wing (13 pts, 5-6 from FT) and #4 David Johnson (15 pts) leading the charge. Tristian Davis (10 pts) and Casper Pohto (5 pts) also contributed.

Varsity Girls

Ocean Township takes on St. Rose Girls | Final 35-30

Jada Lynch had a team high 14 points for the Roses in the 5 point loss vs the Ocean Township Spartans. Brooke Missry 6 points to whittle down the 12 point lead. Caroline Conforti and Taniya Decker each contributed 4 points in the tough loss.

Kayden Clark led the spartans with 14 points. The Spartans took a strong lead in the 3 rd quarter. Eli Clark finished with 9 points. She went 4-4 from the line. Jineen Ayash also contributed 6 points and Gamila Betton with 5 points.

Trinity Hall vs St. Thomas Aquinas

Nina Emnace finished with 16 points, 8 steals, and 4 assists for trinity hall. Grace Feeny and Teagan Drennan also added 10 each for Trinity. St. Thomas Aquinas was unable to withstand the trinity hall zone 3/4 press. St Thomas committed many turnovers but Jordan Barnes finished with 12 for St. Thomas. Gianna Chuffo also added ten points.

St. John Vianney vs. Blair Academy

St John Vianney, the 2023 NJSIAA state champion took on Blair Academy at the Boardwalk hoop group showcase. Blair finished the game 49-38.

Kennedy Henry, the Virginia Tech committee finished with 16 points despite being 5-11 from the ft line. She also tallied 4 assists and 4 steals. Isabella grant dropped 11 pts, 7 rebs, 3 assists and 2 steals. Ava Fajardo added 9 points but was 1-4 from FT line as well.

Stella Lockhart finished with a team high 10 points and went 3-6 from the FT line. She also contributed 6 rebs, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Madison Kocis dropped 10 points. Taylor Sofilkanich scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Kennedy Henry was selected as player of the game for Blair Academy and Stella Lockhart was selected for the SJV team.

Morris Catholic vs Red Bank Catholic

Morris Catholic holds of Red Bank Catholic 49-46. Tessa Carman finished with 8 points and went 4-8 from the FT line. A Nyemcheck dropped 11 points. Shooting a couple fade-aways and getting to the rim. Mya Pauldo dropped 20 points, 3 rebs, and led the team in steals. Mia Pauldo contributed 13 points, 2 rebs, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Power forward Alexis Rosenfeld almost had a double double with 8 points and 10 rebounds.
